Michael Gilroy

Co-Founder and Chief Engineer

Michael Gilroy is co-founder and Chief Engineer of ETS Ltd. Before co-founding ETS Ltd., Michael held a research appointment at The University of Strathclyde where he developed wireless sensor networks platform technology for low power and long range applications.  Prior to his appointment at Strathclyde, Michael was a research engineer at A2E Limited where he developed systems from initial specification through production and manufacturing, undertaking both hardware and software development roles. 

Michael holds an Engineering Doctorate jointly from The University of Glasgow, The University of Edinburgh, Herriot-Watt University, and The University of Strathclyde in ubiquitous data storage techniques.


Craig Michie

Co-Founder and Vice President of Research
& Innovation

Craig Michie is a co-founder and Vice President of Research & Innovation of ETS Ltd. and a Reader within the Centre for Intelligent Dynamic Communications (CIDCOM).  Before co-founding ETS Ltd., Craig was at The University of Strathclyde where he managed research programmes in ultra-wideband wireless communications and low power wireless communications for sensor platforms – all sponsored by ITI Techmedia.

Prior to his appointment at Strathclyde, Craig was the Senior Manager in Competitive Business and Clusters at Scottish Enterprise (SE). In this role Craig supported the development of SE communications strategy on the micro-optoelectronics team (MOET) and was the relationship manager for ITI Techmedia.   Before joining SE, Craig was the Senior Engineer in a start up company which designed and manufactured semiconductor optical amplifier components for the telecommunications sector. 

Craig holds a PhD in Coherent Optical Communications from the University of Glasgow and has authored approximately one hundred papers including five book chapters.  He holds several patents in optical fibre instrumentation in the telecommunications discipline.


Bruce Stephen

Software Developer

Bruce Stephen is a co-founder and Software Developer at ETS Ltd. and is a Senior Research Fellow in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at The University of Strathclyde.

At ETS Ltd. Bruce is responsible for both the development of end-user facing software and animal welfare modeling for the Silent Herdsman decision support platform.  His research work at Strathclyde is in the areas of artificial intelligence and distributed computing applications. Bruce was a successful co-applicant for Scottish Enterprise (SE) Proof of Concept fund awards in 2002 and 2004 and a Scottish Executive SMART award in 2003. His research has spanned multiple disciplines including the implementation and deployment of software solutions to industrial problems ranging from automated network abuse detection to condition based monitoring, assessment and asset management of power system distribution/generation/metering equipment.

Bruce holds a BSc from The University of Glasgow and an MSc and PhD from The University of Strathclyde
